About project

How approved vendors appear on a live map with battery aware background tracking, and how the platform keeps the map honest.

A truck that is not on the map does not sell. Drivers cannot update their position by hand while driving, and a map full of trucks that went home hours ago destroys customer trust.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

Reliable background location on iOS and Android while the app is closed, with clear permission dialogs and a map that stays accurate even when drivers forget to sign off.

Solutions

Once approved, the vendor opens the app and starts the shift with one button. The app reports the truck position in the background on a configurable interval with a distance filter.

A server job deactivates trucks that stop reporting. Vendors can switch off location, change their email after a password check and delete the account, which also removes trucks and permit files.

Technical implementation

  • Geohash recomputed by a Firestore trigger only when the location changes
  • Two schedulers: every 15 minutes and twice a month
